Murta — Iceland Special
Murta Iceland Special is a compact Baby Streamer named after murta, a small fish eaten by the large trout of Lake Þingvallavatn. It is not intended as an exact imitation of a single species; it simply resembles the small baitfish hunted by large predators.
This version is reminiscent of a miniature Tarpon Mullet, one of the most successful Pike Terror flies. An olive-brown back, orange accent and a measured amount of silver and pearl flash create the natural appearance of a small fish. It may suggest murta, stickleback, fry or other prey taken by trout, sea trout, zander and perch.
It is a good option when predators focus on small food or ignore larger, more aggressive streamers. The subdued colour scheme is particularly well suited to clear water and cautious fish.
Order it unweighted or with 0.6 g weighting, with or without a small Wiggle Tail. The standard tail is silver; request another colour in the order notes. The Iceland Special series began in Iceland but works wherever large predators feed on small prey.
