Traper Concept Pike Sinking S3/S6 Fly Line
A sinking fly line for large streamers, designed first and foremost for easy, smooth casting with large, air-resistant flies.
The approximately 10.4 m head combines qualities that are rarely found in one fly line. It delivers the distance, control and accuracy associated with longer heads, while retaining the easy casting and carrying power needed for truly large flies that are typical of much shorter designs.
The line loads the rod smoothly and quickly, carries large streamers with ease and avoids the unpleasant, kicking character of very short heads. It also does not require you to stand high above the water or have a lot of room behind you. The result is excellent control of the line both in the air and in the water. Casting the full length of the line, even with the largest flies, is no problem — as the video shows best.
Concept Pike was developed from the original Pike Terror design concept, with Piotr Stopczyński from the “Wkręceni – rozmowy w rytmie nurtu” podcast also contributing his experience and comments to the project. The finished line was produced by the Polish brand Traper.
Fully sinking S3/S6 head
The entire head sinks and is divided into two sections with different sink rates: S3 and S6. The sections are distinguished by slightly different shades.
Between the head and the running line is a clearly contrasting handling zone. When retrieving the line, you can immediately see that the head is approaching the rod tip and is about to enter the guides.
The running line is a sinking Intermediate. The different densities of the consecutive sections allow the line to settle underwater in a smooth profile, without pronounced hinges between the sections.
The 3D construction combined with a virtually stretch-free Kevlar core provides excellent contact with the fly even at long range. During the retrieve you can almost feel every movement of the streamer, while subtle, hesitant takes are much easier to detect.
Not only for deep fishing.
S3/S6 is an obvious choice when you want to get a large streamer down quickly and keep it in that layer for a greater part of the retrieve. But the faster sink rate is just as useful at medium depths when the fly is retrieved very quickly, where a slower line would be pulled towards the surface almost immediately.
The same applies to fishing in strong current. S3/S6 makes it easier to keep a large fly in the chosen layer, making it an excellent choice for huchen and taimen in large, fast rivers such as the Dunajec or Poprad.
The line has slightly larger loops at both ends, making it easier to use with the heavy leaders required for large predators.
