Flashy Sardine - Pike fly
Flashy Sardine – a streamer inspired by legendary tarpon patterns, reimagined for our local predators – this one’s made for pike. Think of it as a steroid-pumped herring, sprat, or bleak – something every predator instantly recognizes and instinctively attacks.
Built almost entirely from flash in tones of silver, pearl, cool blue, and green. A versatile color combo that works just as well in freshwater as in slightly brackish conditions.
Fished slowly, it looks discreet and natural – but under sunlight, it flares up like a panicked school of baitfish.
You could fry it… but better cast it.
COLOR: Flashy Sardine
MODEL: Single Hook (single hook pike fly)
LENGTH: approx. 13–18 cm
ROD WEIGHT: 8–10 AFTM (optimal #9)
(13 cm casts comfortably with a #8 rod, 18 cm works best with a #9–10. Ultimately depends on casting style and conditions.)
WEIGHTING: None (recommended with a Cheburashka for spinning)
CONSTRUCTION: 80–90% Flash (silver, pearl, blue, green), 10–20% Snow Runner (light underbody or subtle back)
EYES: Tab Eyes
UV ACTIVITY: No
HOOK: Traper SW40, Ahrex TP610 or Ahrex PR320
TECHNIQUE: Fly rod / spinning
TARGET SPECIES: Pike, zander, perch – and any fish that can’t resist a shiny snack
The fly casts light and precise – no problem even with a #8 rod, but flies best on a #9.
In the water, it moves like a classic baitfish – flashing, waving, and dancing with the current.
The more sun and deeper the flash – the better. But it works even under clouds, when predators roam open water.
No tricks needed – but there’s room to play with pace and direction.
Spinning? Absolutely. Loves a Cheburashka, long drops, and subtle twitches.
A streamer that just looks like food – and that’s why it works.
