Barbus BPH Tan – articulated huchen streamer

Barbus BPH Tan is an articulated huchen fly designed for rivers with sandy or gravel bottoms – places where smaller fish try to blend into the background and where subtle, natural colours can be more effective than contrast. The beige–brown colour scheme of this fly fits these conditions perfectly while keeping a realistic prey profile.
At first we used this shade in flies for Mongolian taimen, where it was meant to imitate lenok. Over time it turned out that the same tone works excellently for huchen as well – and one of our friends aptly pointed out that it is almost a barbel. Thanks to the articulated construction, the fly works wider and more flexibly while maintaining a natural balance and stability in current. It does not shine or provoke aggressively – but often this very “invisibility” becomes its biggest advantage.
Weighted versions are also available – for deep slots, fast current and winter conditions, when you need to keep the fly running steadily close to the bottom.

The fly casts light and accurately – no problem even with a 9-weight, while the larger sizes work best with a 10-weight rod.
During false casts it sheds water quickly and folds into a slim projectile.
In the water it flares and pulses, keeping a strong yet natural signal.
Visually it looks big, but it remains light and easy to cast.
You do not have to overwork it – but if you play more with the retrieve, it can surprise you with its unpredictable movement.
It also works with spinning gear. Our streamers are built for fly setups, but they perform excellently as spinning flies as well – especially when fished with a cheburashka.
It is a pike fly–style streamer that works straight away – no overthinking required.
