Grayling Ghost SGGH – huchen streamer
Grayling Ghost SGGH is a huchen streamer in shades of grey – a surprising fly with almost invisible effectiveness, created for the cleanest rivers. This pattern, which I have been tying for a Vienna fly shop for several years, earned its name there for a reason – Grayling Ghost is a fly that disappears in the water, but not from the eyes of predators.
In the Balkans, in Slovenia and in Polish rivers with crystal-clear water, this neutral colour scheme performs surprisingly well. The natural profile and stable action in strong current make the fly look and behave like real prey. Weighted versions are also available – designed for fast currents, deep slots and winter conditions, when you need to punch through slush or keep the fly tracking confidently in the deeper layer.
COLOR: Grayling Ghost (grey)
MODEL: SINGLE HOOK (single-hook fly)
LENGTH: approx. 15–18 cm
ROD CLASS: from 8–10 AFTM
WEIGHTING: selectable in options (we recommend using a cheburashka for spinning)
CONSTRUCTION: 100% Snow Runner (Nayat)
UV ACTIVITY: No
HOOK: Traper SW40, Ahrex TP610 or Ahrex PR320
TECHNIQUE: Fly rod / spinning
TARGET SPECIES: Huchen, taimen, the largest trout
The fly casts light and accurately – no problem even with an 8-weight, while the larger sizes work best with a 9–10-weight rod.
During false casts it sheds water quickly and folds into a slim projectile.
In the water it flares and pulses, keeping a strong yet natural signal.
Visually it looks big, but it remains light and easy to cast.
You do not have to overwork it – but if you play more with the retrieve, it can surprise you with its unpredictable movement. It also works with spinning gear. Our streamers are built for fly setups, but they perform excellently as spinning flies as well – especially when fished with a cheburashka.
It is a pike fly–style streamer that works straight away – no overthinking required.
