NYAP – Popper
NYAP – minimal design, maximum commotion.
The genius of NYAP is its simplicity: a slim, straightforward head that is surprisingly easy to cast, yet creates the kind of commotion you would expect from a much bigger popper. One firm strip produces a big wake and a loud “pop” – it is hard to believe such a slim fly can do so much. If you know how tiring it can be to cast large poppers with wide heads, you will quickly appreciate NYAP.
The tail, made from natural Nayat hair, gives the fly fluid, lifelike movement. The Ahrex 5/0 hook is chosen not only for the size of the fish: it also helps stabilize the popper and keeps it from jumping out of the water during aggressive retrieves. This means every strip translates into effective action from the head.
NYAP stands for Not Your Average Popper. It was created by James Christmas in the Seychelles with giant trevally in mind. But the idea was too good to stay on tropical reefs alone. Today NYAP also works for peacock bass, golden dorado and pike. It is worth having within reach wherever predators hunt near the surface.
